Car seat safety : Some myths busted.

Car seat safety is depended on how well you do your research related to selecting a car seat for your child. It’s really important to pick up the right car seat that would fit your child, your vehicle and would be easy to install.

Here is a cheat sheet that would help you in keeping your child safe in your car:

Myth: Pre- loved car seats are good to go
Truth: Car seats come with an expiry date

Pre-loved stuff might be convenient and easy on your pocket, however if you talk about car seats, they are totally not worth the risk. You won’t know if the car seat has been through a car crash or if it has been compromised with. Also, over the time the plastic could have degraded. Make sure you know the history of a pre-loved car seat and don’t forget to check the expiry date, which you would find on a sticker affixed to the car seat’s registration card.

Myth: You could make your older child sit in the front seat
Truth: Children under 13 are safer at the back

It’s often believed that if your child outgrows the car seat or booster seat, the front seat could be a fair deal. Please remember that children under the age of 13 years are safest at the back seat of your car.

Myth: A seat belt alone could protect smaller kid
Truth: Kids smaller than. 4ft 9inches need a booster seat

A seat belt could ride around your child’s neck or waist and not properly fit younger child, causing a potential danger.

Myth: You can make a 1 year old ride forward facing
Truth: Rare-facing is adviced till the age of 2

It’s adviced that kids must remain in the rear-facing car seats until the age of 2, or when they would exceed the weight or height limit for your car seat.

Myth: The best car seats are the expensive ones
Truth: Car seat that is approved is quite safe

You might find some car seats more expensive than the others based on the padding, fabric or other features, however that don’t make them any safer. Always go for the car seat which meets safety standards.
It’s important to get the right kind of car seat for your child based on his age and weight.

  • Has a washable seat cover
  • Can be exposed to Sun for a long time, hence you won’t have to uninstall it if your car is exposed to the sun for a longer time
This car seat could carry a child upto 18 kgs of weight and isn’t recommended beyond 20 kgs.

Not so high fives of Jack and Jill Baby carseat:

The only limitation I found in this car seat is that it doesn’t fit in the middle position of the rear seat, since in India cars have a 3 point safely belt only on the side seats. Although you would find it in the high end vehicles.

Jack and Jill Baby Carseat is the best if your are looking for a comfortable and safe car seat in India. It is extremely light weight (I could easily carry it down my building). I found this value for money and would highly recommend it.
